Don't my tax dollars pay for TransCare's services?
Unlike fire/EMS departments, TransCare is a private, nonprofit organization that currently does not receive tax money. We rely on payments from insurance companies, Medicare/Medicaid and patients to continue providing critical services to our communities.
Doesn't my insurance pay for emergency Paramedic and ambulance transportation services?
Insurance providers vary on what medical services they will cover. Contact your provider for details.
Many policies do not cover the entire fee for ambulance transportation or emergency Paramedic services. Or, you may be responsible for a deductible. And specifically for ambulance transportation, only certain insurance providers have agreements with TransCare to cover a portion of ambulance transportation fees.
Why was I billed twice for an emergency call?
TransCare is part of a “tiered” emergency response system. Our Paramedics meet your local fire/EMS department at the emergency to provide advanced life support (ALS).
You and/or your insurance provider will receive a bill from TransCare for ALS services. You may also receive a bill from the fire/EMS department for transportation via ambulance to the hospital. The bills are for separate services and paid to separate agencies. You will not receive 2 bills from TransCare for the same emergency call.
Will my emergency Paramedic services subscription cover ambulance transportation charges?
No. Subscriptions only cover charges for emergency Paramedic services.
Does TransCare make money by billing patients?
TransCare is a nonprofit organization that does not, and legally cannot, profit from its services. In fact, TransCare must bill patients to be able to operate.
